0:10

hey guys welcome back to the Beyond hope

0:12

project podcast my name is Jason Tharp

0:14

the champion of Hope and today we have

0:17

an exciting episode for you because

0:20

here's the catch asking for Hope isn't

0:23

as scary as you think it is and maybe

0:25

that's just a self-affirmation for

0:28

myself because um that is one of my

0:31

biggest I don't want to call it a fear

0:33

because it's not really a fear it's the

0:35

thing I get hung up on a lot is asking

0:37

for help and I think it's because like

0:40

I've done a lot of stuff in the past

0:43

where uh business-wise I've been I feel

0:47

like I've been taken advantage of or

0:49

exploited because I just didn't know any

0:51

better I didn't understand contracts or

0:53

I just didn't understand you know what

0:55

it's like to be a working creative and I

0:57

kind of learned the hard way and

1:00

it was always usually case around as

1:03

help because it was like this you know I

1:04

listened to a podcast day and somebody

1:06

was saying like they struggle with this

1:08

idea of when you ask for help that there

1:10

was a catch involved in it um and it was

1:13

like their apprehension was like they

1:15

needed to feel safe before they knew

1:17

that the help was trustworthy and their

1:20

struggle was that they wanted to be a

1:22

nice person and um and help others and I

1:25

think that's a little bit of my hang-up

1:27

where I fall into that trap with asking

1:30

for help and then um something kind of

1:34

crazy happened where I was on this trip

1:35

and I went to this this event where I

1:39

was once again finding myself sitting in

1:43

this it was called a conference but it

1:45

wasn't a conference it was one of those

1:47

deals where they give you like you know

1:49

a nickels worth of like value but then

1:52

promised 95 cents worth the stuff if you

1:55

just sign up for their newsletter or if

1:58

you just text this we send you the

2:01

complete guide for free and I mean you

2:04

you see them just as much as I do um and

2:08

having fallen for a bunch of those

2:09

things I'm very um my my guard is up on

2:12

those and I tend to run now instead of

2:16

even remotely entertain those things

2:19

because what I realized every time I

2:20

signed up for one of those things I kind

2:22

of already knew the stuff they were

2:23

talking about it was just like sold one

2:26

way but then it flipped um and I'm sure

2:29

that a lot of you can relate to that

2:30

just as well as I do so what happened

2:33

was I was in this thing and and I had

2:35

driven there um from another meeting

2:38

that I had so I was quite a few miles

2:41

from home and my intentions were to stay

2:45

it was I was in New York was to stay in

2:47

New York the other the the next night or

2:49

that

2:50

night and what ended up happening was I

2:53

had this moment where all of a sudden

2:56

I'm listening to this person on stage

2:59

that is speaking complete nonsense stuff

3:02

that has been just regurgitated from

3:03

somebody else's stuff and just stuff

3:05

you've heard a million times and then

3:07

the classic line of like well all you

3:09

got to do is just send this here and

3:11

I'll text you all of this stuff and you

3:13

know whatever and I'm not saying this is

3:16

a attack like this person doesn't know

3:17

what they're talking about that's not at

3:19

all where I'm going with this this is

3:21

really just me reflecting on something

3:23

that I hope that you can reflect on and

3:25

see a little bit of your story because

3:27

I'm sure this person did a great job

3:29

they they probably do a great job for

3:30

some of those that are looking for those

3:33

sort of

3:34

solutions but as I'm developing myself

3:38

in my own self-development

3:40

Parts this is a trigger for me because

3:44

what I'm seeking is help but what I'm

3:47

not doing is asking for help and there's

3:50

a distinct difference because when

3:51

you're busy seeking you're looking for

3:54

answers outside of yourself and what

3:56

eventually starts happening is you start

3:58

adopting somebody else's idea of what

3:59

your life should be and I'm at that

4:02

point where I'm tired of that because

4:04

I've done it enough where it has been

4:06

Hollow and has not helped so where I'm

4:09

at is that threshold of like what do I

4:10

got to do I got start asking for help so

4:13

as I'm sitting here listening to this

4:14

person I get on my phone and I just text

4:16

some people that I know might actually

4:18

have the answers and the the trigger was

4:20

like why am I sitting here listening to

4:23

the same stuff I've heard a hundred

4:25

times versus like seeing if some people

4:28

in my inner circle that are maybe fur

4:29

further ahead or where I want to be what

4:32

they're doing and see if I can maybe get

4:33

some help from them so I sent a couple

4:35

texts and and sure enough shocker

4:38

because I just asked for help they made

4:41

themselves available and they were like

4:44

well we can meet this day and I was like

4:45

that's wonderful and you know I then

4:49

left went and got my bag out of the

4:52

hotel went to the train station got in

4:54

my car and drove home and it was just

4:57

that weird empowering thing because for

5:00

whatever reason when you are somebody

5:03

that deals with struggling with Worth or

5:07

or doubt in yourself or you know a big

5:10

one for me is like it's it's so

5:12

confusing me because I feel like what

5:13

I'm doing is just being me and that you

5:17

realize that there are people that just

5:18

truly want to help and that notion is um

5:22

it's tough for anybody that has felt

5:24

taken advantage of multiple times

5:26

because we are kind of conditioned to um

5:31

to not accept the help and it's

5:35

definitely difficult for somebody that

5:36

is like heart felt heart leader a Giver

5:39

by nature which I feel like I fallen

5:41

into that category to not only just keep

5:44

giving but also be willing to receive

5:47

stuff and I think that's the other part

5:49

when you're asking help is you have to

5:50

be willing to receive the help that

5:53

you're getting and I would say with

5:57

confidence that like that I wasn't the

6:00

best at receiving that stuff and and

6:03

what I would do is make up an excuse or

6:05

I would put it off or i' procrastinate

6:08

on that idea or I would just do whatever

6:10

it took to I guess not receive what was

6:15

waiting to come through and you know for

6:17

whatever reason I just I I just had that

6:19

Epiphany this week and I just felt like

6:20

I needed to come on here and talk about

6:22

that because it was such a profound

6:25

shift and super empowering and what it

6:29

did was it like kind of took the damn of

6:32

roadblocks out of my head and all of a

6:34

sudden like these answers started

6:36

flowing of what it was and I know I've

6:39

said this on here a million times and

6:41

I'm probably going to continue to say it

6:42

because I think that if I need to hear

6:45

it a bunch you probably hear need to

6:47

hear a bunch it wasn't in all the places

6:51

I was looking for something it was all

6:52

in everything that I have already been

6:54

doing I just wasn't looking in the right

6:57

spot or I wasn't asking the right

6:58

question or I wasn't seen that it was

7:00

already there and a lot of the reasons

7:02

why it was because it was based behind

7:04

fear or was behind anger it was behind

7:06

shame or doubt or some sort of negative

7:09

thing and I think what you we we tend to

7:11

think sometimes is that if you get a

7:13

great handle on these things that those

7:14

things disappear and when they flare

7:16

back up you kind of struggle with it

7:18

because it shouldn't be flaring back up

7:20

and I definitely would say for me that's

7:22

a a big one is like you know wondering

7:24

that like you know you think you have

7:26

Mastery over this doubt but then

7:28

sometimes it flares back up and you

7:30

start to to question and maybe it is

7:32

because you're putting a lot of effort

7:33

into something you're not seeing some

7:35

stuff but I will also challenge you to

7:37

think about this wherever you're at

7:39

right now you didn't get there overnight

7:41

either and if you're really wanting to

7:43

shift and have a big impact which is a

7:45

big goal for me is to take the story

7:48

that I have lived through and figure out

7:50

a way to help people see what is good

7:52

about them to provide the hope the spark

7:54

to get started and as you get started to

7:57

help you figure out the along the path

7:58

of what you're learning

8:00

and the only way I can do that is by

8:01

getting on here and telling you the

8:02

stuff that I'm on the same path we might

8:06

have different paths we are all in this

8:09

journey together and our paths are

8:10

completely different but if I'm willing

8:12

to share and give what it is that I am

8:15

learning along the way then I have to be

8:18

willing to receive the goodness that's

8:20

coming back to me and that's what I

8:24

learned this week was the simple as part

8:27

of just asking for help now what was

8:30

involved in that it was about being

8:31

brave being bold enough you know go back

8:34

to the Hope acronym you know I was hyper

8:36

aware right I was in that situation I

8:38

realized this is not what I want anymore

8:41

what can I do to shift that then I was

8:43

openhearted I was willing to get up and

8:46

leave I was willing to love myself

8:48

enough to not put more stuff that I did

8:51

not need into my head to cause more

8:54

confusion make me lose track of what I'm

8:56

doing and why I'm doing it and I was

8:59

openhearted enough to walk away and then

9:02

I

9:03

persisted I sat down and thought about

9:05

what is it that is making this happen

9:07

and I've learned how to you know you're

9:09

you're learning along the way to forgive

9:11

yourself for doing the same repeat thing

9:13

I'm not beating myself up anymore like

9:15

those days are long gone that that ended

9:18

a long time ago and and there that

9:20

Clarity was has been serving me really

9:22

well because it allows me to understand

9:24

that each day is a reset so when you can

9:26

learn to forgive yourself for putting

9:28

yourself back in the same spot that

9:30

you've been before you can persist a lot

9:32

more you can get right back to where you

9:35

were when you thought you were failing

9:37

to realize that no no no I'm actually

9:38

learning and like look at this this is

9:40

really pretty empowering and that brings

9:42

me to the last part right you feel

9:43

empowered when you're hyper aware and

9:45

you're openart and you persist to this

9:47

stuff you're going to feel pretty

9:47

empowered when you start to feel

9:49

empowered you're going to take those

9:50

steps and you're going to realize that

9:52

like wow it wasn't so bad to ask for

9:55

help and wow it was actually kind of

9:57

cool to be open to receiving that help

10:00

and as you start down that path and you

10:02

start to see those things realize that

10:05

like it really is already here you're

10:08

not Reinventing all the time some people

10:11

call it uprooting some people call it

10:13

Reinventing for me it was

10:16

self-destruction that was a big one you

10:18

know anything went good I had to blow it

10:19

up because I didn't deserve it right and

10:22

when you when you start to get clear

10:24

with that and you focus so now my

10:26

mission is simple like I am picking one

10:29

thing thing I'm focusing on one thing

10:31

and I'm going to move on that one thing

10:33

and the thing is there's here's the fun

10:35

part about it is like all those other

10:37

things I was pushing on they were

10:39

equally as good they're equally as good

10:42

so what does that mean that means that

10:43

once this one gets going then I can

10:46

introduce the other stuff and the net is

10:48

already there so it's not going to be

10:50

such a push to get through instead of

10:52

trying to push 10 rocks up the hill I

10:55

can push one and when I get it up there

10:56

I can bring the other ones because I

10:58

know the path is there I understand that

11:00

there's people along the way to help I

11:01

understand that I don't have to do it in

11:03

one day I understand that like just

11:05

because I'm not moving it today just a

11:07

little bit that I'm failing all of these

11:09

things because you've done that one

11:11

thing and pushed it up you realize that

11:13

along the way you've learned a ton and

11:16

this is how it best serves you so guys

11:20

as you're out there trying to do stuff

11:21

maybe are you like me are you trying to

11:23

do too much right now wondering why

11:26

you're not getting where you want to go

11:28

are you spinning plates after plates

11:30

after plates just putting out fires that

11:32

at the end of the day the one person

11:34

that didn't get anything accomplished

11:35

was you because you're too busy worrying

11:37

about everything else um maybe that's

11:40

time to stop that stuff maybe it's time

11:42

to think about it in a different way

11:44

what would it be like if you could think

11:46

about it for a second if you could focus

11:48

all your energy and effort on this one

11:49

thing how important is it to you if it's

11:53

wanting to make an impact and like think

11:55

about that who's going to impact my goal

11:58

is the same as every time time I I sat

12:00

down and talked with you is that this

12:02

will affect two people that know two

12:06

people that will share this message with

12:09

them that will then start to spider we

12:12

where we're able to help other people

12:15

discover what is amazing in themselves

12:17

and this is what the mission is and this

12:20

is what your mission should be be brave

12:22

enough to understand that you're doing a

12:24

good job maybe you're just spreading

12:26

yourself too thin stop beating yourself

12:29

up over the things you're not getting

12:30

accomplished and start looking at the

12:32

things you're doing and is that the

12:34

reason why you're not getting it

12:36

accomplished focus on your what and then

12:38

the why will take over because the

12:40

passion and all stuff comes through

12:41

you're passionate about what you want to

12:43

do I think what's happening is that

12:45

you're allowing too much stuff to get in

12:47

the way that we lose that passion and we

12:50

think that maybe it's not meant for us I

12:53

don't think that's the case I think you

12:55

know as well as I do what is meant for

12:57

me I think you you know exactly what

13:00

it's meant for you so you know I I

13:03

really hope that that resonates with you

13:05

out there I hope that you can hear that

13:07

and

13:09

understand that

13:11

value of being bold enough I mean it

13:14

really does come down to being bold like

13:16

it it your life can change I think

13:19

everybody gets confused by this idea

13:20

self-help needs to be some sort of like

13:22

you know

13:24

10year Journey you know or

13:26

self-discovery or whatever you want to

13:27

call it this 10 year Journey but it can

13:29

happen an instant and it does happen by

13:32

just deciding that you are going to

13:35

focus on you and what you want to do and

13:38

then be open to receive the magic that

13:40

comes out of that um because it's all

13:43

sitting there waiting for you um and

13:45

it's hard to see a lot of stuff when

13:48

you're looking through a bunch of trees

13:49

of things the path gets a lot clearer

13:51

when you start to realize that like that

13:54

one tree there doesn't need to be there

13:56

and I can move over here and I can

13:57

zigzag and I can get away from all this

13:59

stuff and all a sudden it just opens up

14:00

to this path that you've been looking

14:02

for all along so guys I hope that that

14:04

resonates I mean listen I got a

14:07

newsletter that I am trying to grow

14:09

that's one of my that that is one of my

14:10

focuses right there that's part of it

14:13

you know I have books that I trying to

14:14

wrap up so it it is all this is the

14:16

focus of so I want to grow this

14:18

newsletter so I have an I have an ask if

14:20

you know two people that can benefit

14:23

from this forward this podcast to them

14:26

are you somebody that focuses on too

14:29

many things drop a comment on there go

14:31

over my website jason.com sign up for my

14:34

newsletter like help me grow this hope

14:37

thing um I don't want to be a guru I

14:39

want to help you through by seeing

14:41

yourself through my story and help you

14:43

overcome yourself while I overcome

14:45

myself and uh yeah so hey have a good

14:49

day you're doing a good job being human

14:50

keep doing it life is difficult and uh

14:53

nobody said it was going to be easy but

14:55

stop focusing on all this other crap and

14:56

focus on the one thing and I think what

14:59

you're going to find is your life's

15:00

going to open up to pretty amazing

15:02

things hope this helps all
